Description
The main character, Majima Shuji, is suddenly summoned to another world and takes on a mission as a “hero’s guide” to lead the heroes. He sets out on a journey to seal the gates of the Demon World with three heroes, all of whom are beautiful girls with unique personalities, but in the process, he discovers that their lives will be sacrificed. In order to save them, Shuji decides to risk his own life to destroy the gate of the demon world. Shuji succeeds in destroying the gate of the demon world and saves the heroes, but he himself also loses his life. ……thinking that, he finds himself back in modern Japan and somehow back in time, having inherited all of his powers: he is now a hero of the other world, and he is now a hero of the other world. Meanwhile, at the same time, the heroes in the other world think Shuji is completely dead, and they slowly and gradually become ill. …… Eventually, the girls learn that Shuji is alive and act on their pent up passions.

My Thoughts on After Risking My Life to Save the Sacrificial Heroes, I Returned to Japan. Apparently, the Heroes in the Other World Are Sick
First Impressions
The title definitely grabbed my attention – it's a mouthful, but it promises a specific kind of story: a selfless protagonist, a return to normalcy, and then…chaos. The initial hook is strong, drawing you in with the idea of a hero returning home only to be dragged back into the fray. I went in expecting a fast-paced narrative that dives straight into the consequences of the hero's actions, and the fallout from the heroes' "sickness."
What Works Well
The premise is undeniably interesting. The idea of a protagonist who's already proven himself in another world, now trying to navigate the mundane reality of Japan, has a lot of potential. The "strong from the start" aspect is appealing to readers who enjoy watching a capable character deal with new challenges. I can also see the appeal of the "slice of life" elements, offering a breather between the more intense fantasy elements. The potential for a harem, if executed well, could also add another layer of complexity and romantic interest.
Areas of Concern
My main concern stems from the pacing. While the opening might be strong, I’m worried about the story's progression. I've heard that the plot, as advertised in the title, takes a backseat for a significant number of chapters. Spending too much time on side plots, like the protagonist's bodyguard duties or the heroines' initial despair, risks losing readers who are eager to see the main conflict unfold. While these elements aren't inherently bad, delaying the central plot for too long can lead to frustration. I would have preferred a more balanced approach, interweaving the slice-of-life elements with the overarching narrative of the sick heroes.
Final Verdict
"After Risking My Life to Save the Sacrificial Heroes, I Returned to Japan. Apparently, the Heroes in the Other World Are Sick" has a compelling premise and the potential to be a fun and engaging read. However, the pacing seems to be a significant issue, potentially hindering the story's momentum. If you're patient and enjoy character-driven stories with a slower burn, this might be for you. But if you're primarily interested in the "sick heroes" plotline, be prepared to wait a while for it to truly kick in.
