First Impressions
The premise alone grabbed my attention: a powerful high priest ancestor waking up after 200 years to find his descendants in a financial mess. I was immediately intrigued by the idea of an ancient figure navigating the modern world, especially with the promise of comedy and romance thrown into the mix. It felt fresh and exciting.
What Works Well
Without a doubt, the humor is the strongest aspect of this novel. The antics of the grandson, Su, are a constant source of laughter. His sheer lack of common sense provides endless comedic opportunities. The story doesn't take itself too seriously, which I appreciated. The author has also created a cast of characters who add to the comedic atmosphere. The main character's calm and cunning nature is a good contrast to the chaos around him. I also enjoyed the lightheartedness and the lack of heavy angst. It was a refreshing change of pace.
