Description
“Yanyan, food is running low. Share your compressed biscuits with everyone, okay?” “Yanyan, Xiaorou got bitten by a zombie. Let her have your vaccine first.” “Yanyan, the old, weak, sick, and disabled go first—we’ll cover the rear…” Under Chen Muzhou’s tireless saintly behavior, Xia Yan really did die. Right before she died, the man hugged her tightly and said that if there was a next life, he’d protect her from all harm. Screw your grandma’s leg! Saintly b*****d, go die! After Xia Yan was reborn, she drove overnight to Chicheng Prison and bailed out Lin Xiaoye, the man who once went on a killing spree for her, mu*dering dozens. Lin Xiaoye was completely unhinged and dangerous—and he was also the one who took her v*rginity. But it’s the apocalypse. If you’re not clinging to a madman’s thigh, are you planning to wait around and die with some sanctimonious fool? 【Outside, it’s all starving refugees】 “Yanyan, the place is swarming with zombies. Come into my arms, open your mouth—here, have some candy.” 【The medical kit is full of vaccines. Stepsister Xiaorou is kneeling at her feet, begging】 “Yanyan, she’s infected. Come here, don’t look. I’ll wipe your feet for you.” 【Zombies attack. Everyone at the base flees, but Lin Xiaoye won’t let her go】 “Yanyan, it’s fine. They’re all my pets… Hm? You’re shaking—do you not like how I look?” On the surface, Xia Yan: “Stay away from me!” Inside, she’s screaming: The white-haired, red-eyed Corpse King Lin Xiaoye—ahhh, how can someone this hot even exist?!

My Thoughts on After Dying Tragically in the Apocalypse, She Bailed Out the Mad Corpse King from Prison
This title is certainly a mouthful, but after diving in, I found "After Dying Tragically…" to be a mixed bag of post-apocalyptic survival, yandere romance, and some genuinely interesting character dynamics. It's definitely a unique read, but not without its flaws.
First Impressions
The premise is intriguing: a reborn FL, haunted by her past life mistakes, decides to latch onto a dangerous, incarcerated "Corpse King" to survive the zombie-infested world. The initial world-building is strong, painting a vivid picture of a desolate and desperate post-apocalyptic landscape. I was immediately drawn in by the FL's pragmatic (though perhaps morally questionable) decision-making.
What Works Well
The yandere ML is undeniably a major draw. His obsessive nature is dialed up to eleven, and I found myself morbidly fascinated by his twisted devotion to the FL. The novel doesn't shy away from the darker aspects of his personality, making him a compelling, albeit terrifying, character. I also appreciated the morally grey areas the novel explores. The FL isn't a saint, and her survival instincts often lead her down questionable paths. This complexity makes her a more realistic and engaging protagonist. Additionally, the side characters are well-developed, adding depth to the story, with some even undergoing satisfying character arcs. The unique zombie variants and superpower system inject a welcome dose of creativity into the familiar apocalypse setting.
Areas of Concern
I found that the plot meanders somewhat after the initial setup. The focus shifts, and some intriguing plot threads involving the meteorite, Butler Zhai, and other characters are unfortunately dropped. This loss of focus can be frustrating, especially when I was invested in those storylines. Furthermore, the ML's personality can feel inconsistent at times. His motivations and plans seem to shift without clear reasoning, making it difficult to fully grasp his character. Lastly, the FL's initial behavior rubbed me the wrong way; however, her character development is well done and she improves over time.

Final Verdict
"After Dying Tragically…" is a flawed but ultimately engaging read. The strong world-building, compelling (if disturbing) romance, and morally ambiguous characters kept me hooked. While the plot loses focus at times, the overall experience is still worthwhile, especially if you're a fan of dark romance and post-apocalyptic settings. I'd give it a solid 3.5 out of 5 stars.
