Description

"Absolute Depth" was a novel I went into with tempered expectations, and I came out feeling like it delivered a fairly enjoyable, if somewhat lightweight, experience. It's a quick and easy read, perfect for when you want something fluffy and not overly demanding.

The premise itself is quite charming: a university student with a captivating voice who livestreams for fun meets a tattoo artist after deciding to memorialize his deceased cat. From there, the story focuses primarily on the burgeoning relationship between our main characters. The initial setup is sweet, and I was immediately drawn to the potential for romance.
What Works Well
The core strength of "Absolute Depth" lies in its central relationship. I found the dynamic between the MC and ML to be genuinely engaging. The ML is portrayed as incredibly sincere and attentive, and I appreciated how he approaches the MC with patience and care. The story excels in depicting the development of their connection, with plenty of cute and heartwarming scenes. The author does a good job of building sexual tension between the two.

I felt the reveal that the MC and ML were previously acquainted through the MC's livestreaming to be a little underwhelming. While it added a layer to their relationship, it didn't have as significant of an impact on the overall narrative as I'd hoped.
