Description
Felix continuously had the same nightmare. He was back in the interrogation room, his hands tied behind his back in heavy fetters, his feet chained to an iron chair, and his thin cloth robe drenched. In the damp prison, he was barefoot on the stone floor, shivering with cold. The wounds on his knees were sutured to stop the bleeding, but the pain penetrated into the bone. The marks on his thighs and back were so red and swollen that he had to stretch his shoulders and stand on tiptoe to minimize contact with the chair. Someone was talking outside the door. He vaguely heard a string of numbers, which were the numbers he was given when he was thrown into the dungeon. Those people also said ‘peace talks,’ ‘agreements,’ ‘Temple group intervention,’ ‘counting prisoners’ and so on. Then, the door creaked open and a familiar figure came in, the face he was most afraid of—— King Capital’s Knight Sean Clayson. He was tall and cold, with long pale gold hair tied at the back of his head, and his facial features were as delicate as those of an elf portrayed by a court painter.

A Day in the Life of the Former Prisoner of War and His Interrogator Review & Spoilers - Novel Translator
My Thoughts on A Day in the Life of the Former Prisoner of War and His Interrogator
This web novel, "A Day in the Life of the Former Prisoner of War and His Interrogator," is a short and intense dive into the aftermath of war and trauma. It's a story that seems to have resonated strongly with some, while leaving others feeling a bit lost. After reading, I can see both sides.
First Impressions
Initially, I was intrigued by the premise. The idea of exploring the complex relationship between a former prisoner and his interrogator, especially within a fantasy setting, felt ripe with potential for both drama and psychological depth. I went in expecting a slow burn, a gradual unpacking of the characters' emotional baggage.
What Works Well
For a short story, the novel packs quite a punch. Many readers praised the depth it manages to achieve in so few chapters, and I agree. The story doesn't shy away from the lasting impact of trauma, depicting the protagonist's struggles with fear and the slow, difficult process of healing. I also appreciated the exploration of the antagonist's motivations and how their actions rippled outwards, affecting everyone around them. Some found the ending realistic, offering a glimmer of hope amidst the lingering shadows of war. The concept of confronting past abuse through a magical lens, as mentioned by some, also added a unique and compelling layer to the narrative.
Areas of Concern
However, the novel's brevity also seems to be its biggest weakness. Several readers felt the story was rushed, with insufficient world-building and character development. I can understand this criticism. The relationship between Felix and Sean, in particular, felt somewhat underdeveloped. The leap from fear and discomfort to romantic feelings seemed abrupt and unconvincing, potentially undermining the emotional weight of the story. A few readers felt lost and confused, unable to fully grasp the plot or the characters' motivations.

Final Verdict
"A Day in the Life of the Former Prisoner of War and His Interrogator" is an ambitious story that attempts to tackle complex themes within a limited framework. While it succeeds in creating a poignant exploration of trauma and its aftermath, the rushed pacing and underdeveloped relationships may leave some readers wanting more. It's a story with a lot of potential, but its execution might not appeal to everyone. I'd recommend it with reservations, suggesting readers go in with an open mind and an understanding that it's a brief, albeit intense, experience.
