Description

Okay, that title is definitely a mouthful, isn't it? Going into this web novel, I was expecting a sweet, lighthearted story, and that's largely what I got. The premise is simple: a kind male protagonist comforts a heartbroken gyaru, and she subsequently falls for him and changes her appearance to appeal to him. It's a wish-fulfillment scenario, for sure, but sometimes that's exactly what I'm in the mood for.
What Works Well
The strongest aspect of this novel is definitely the cuteness factor. The female lead is proactive and aggressive in her pursuit of the male protagonist, which I found refreshing. I appreciated the humor sprinkled throughout the dialogue, keeping things engaging. I found the male protagonist, despite being a bit hesitant and self-conscious, surprisingly likable. There were moments where he stepped up and asserted himself, which made him more relatable than your average beta male character. The story moves at a brisk pace, and the translation is well done, making for a smooth reading experience.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the overall experience, I do have a few reservations. The story is quite short and, as a result, feels somewhat shallow. I would have liked to see more depth and development in the characters and their relationships. I also felt that the ending was a bit rushed, although it did manage to tie up the loose ends. I can understand some readers finding the female lead's complete change in appearance to be a bit unrealistic or even unhealthy. It does raise questions about self-acceptance and whether she's truly being herself.
