My Thoughts on Untamed Sin
"Untamed Sin" is definitely a novel that doesn't pull any punches. Diving into it, I knew I was in for a potentially disturbing ride, and it certainly delivered on that front. It's a completed original work that's currently being translated, and I can see why it's generating buzz, even if some of that buzz comes with a warning label.
First Impressions
Right off the bat, it's clear this isn't your typical fluffy romance. The tags alone – adult, fantasy, romance, smut, tragedy, and especially the trigger warnings – paint a vivid picture. This is dark fantasy romance with a heavy emphasis on the dark. The European-esque setting adds a layer of gothic atmosphere that really sets the stage for the events to unfold.
What Works Well
The writing itself seems to be a strong point, and I'm grateful to the translator for their work in making the story accessible. Several readers have praised the quality of the translation, which is crucial for a story this intense. The author's commitment to exploring the depths of depravity is also notable, even if it's not always comfortable. If you're looking for a story that pushes boundaries and doesn't shy away from difficult themes, "Untamed Sin" might be for you. The characters, despite (or perhaps because of) their flaws, are compelling. The female lead, while flawed, elicits a certain sympathy as she navigates a truly horrific situation.
