Description
Office worker Xue Ming was hit by a drunk driver on her way home from work and died on the spot. When she opened her eyes again, a young man dressed as a scholar stood before her and said, “Brother Chixia, if you’ve rested enough, let’s get going.” Xue Ming was confused about when she changed her surname to Yan and asked, “Who are you?” The scholar replied, “I am Ning Caichen.” Xue Ming felt something was wrong. After confirming several times, she realized she had entered the world of “Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio” after her death. From Ning Caichen’s words, she learned that she seemed to be called Yan Chixia. She and Ning Caichen set off together and soon saw a magnificent temple ahead. Ning Caichen was eager to enter, but Xue Ming felt alarmed and wiped a cold sweat, saying, “This temple doesn’t look very auspicious.” Xue Ming originally thought that since she had become Yan Chixia, even if she didn’t have the skills to exorcise demons, she should at least have some treasures, like the mighty sword mentioned in the original story. However, she soon discovered that she had overestimated herself. On the first night in the temple, she was chased by a Yaksha ghost and fled in panic, accidentally entering the temple’s depths. There, she found a very handsome male ghost named Yu He, whom the other Yakshas in the temple feared and dared not disturb. After narrowly escaping death outside, Xue Ming decided to propose a deal with Yu He: she would provide him with a bit of her yang energy every day in exchange for shelter in his room. Yu He’s gaze lingered on her long before he finally agreed. From then on, Xue Ming was hugged and kissed by this male ghost, who absorbed her yang energy, causing her vitality to decline rapidly. Eventually, she needed a cane to walk and realized that if this continued, she would die. She decided to terminate the deal unilaterally. The male ghost Yu He then revealed his true form, grabbed her, and pressed her onto the bed, saying, “No problem, I’ll transfer some yang energy to you.” Xue Ming was shocked, “Wait a minute, how can a male ghost have yang energy?” Yan Yuhe, courtesy name Chixia, was ordered by his master to descend the mountain to capture a junior sister who had betrayed their sect. He calculated that she would enter the temple and wait there in advance. He originally planned to retrieve the sect’s treasure after she died at the hands of the demons, but unexpectedly, this junior sister barged in, screaming, and not only did not recognize him but also mistook him for a male ghost and offered her yang energy. Looking into her clear, jade-like eyes, Yan Yuhe had a change of heart and agreed.

My Thoughts on Transferring Yang Energy
"Transferring Yang Energy" promised a blend of adventure, comedy, romance, and the supernatural, and I have to say, it largely delivered on that promise! It was a relatively quick read, perfect for when you want something engaging without an enormous commitment.
First Impressions
Right off the bat, I was drawn in by the premise. A seemingly normal female lead, thrust into a world of ghosts and cultivation, immediately made me curious. The dynamic with the cold, powerful male lead, who is strangely drawn to her, added another layer of intrigue. I found myself eager to see how their relationship would develop, especially with the "yang energy transfer" as the initial catalyst.
What Works Well
The comedic undertones kept the story light even when dealing with darker themes like ghosts and corpses. I appreciated the female lead's self-awareness and lack of overwhelming ambition. She felt relatable in her initial timidity, making her journey of survival and eventual growth all the more compelling.
The romance, while starting from a somewhat transactional basis, blossomed into something genuinely sweet. I enjoyed watching the male lead's cold exterior melt away as he fell for the female lead, even if he was a bit clueless about his feelings at first. The descriptions of their interactions, though not overly explicit, were steamy enough to keep me invested in their physical and emotional connection. The plot moved along at a good pace, keeping me engaged without feeling rushed, and the ending provided a satisfying resolution for both the main plot and the characters' individual arcs.
Areas of Concern
I can't say that I personally disliked this aspect, but it's worth noting that some readers might find the initial interactions between the leads a bit dubcon-ish. While it evolves into a more consensual and loving relationship, the early reliance on physical intimacy for survival might not appeal to everyone.

If you're looking for a story with a bit of spice, a touch of humor, and a heartwarming romance set against a supernatural backdrop, I'd definitely recommend giving this one a try!
