These Lunatics are Obsessed With Me promised a wild ride, and while it delivered on some aspects, other areas left me wanting more. As someone who enjoys a good blend of action, comedy, and a dash of romance, I dove in with high hopes.
First Impressions
The initial chapters definitely grabbed my attention. The premise of a cliché hunter story with a reverse harem twist is undeniably appealing. I found myself quickly invested in the MC, Han Yi-jin, and his down-to-earth personality. The early world-building and the hint of something bigger than just dungeon-crawling also piqued my interest.
What Works Well
The humor definitely lands, and the dialogue is often witty and engaging. I appreciated that Han Yi-jin wasn't portrayed as clueless, and he generally uses his brain to navigate tricky situations. The dynamic between him and the potential love interests is also quite amusing, particularly the possessive tendencies on display. The unique ability of the MC, needing skinship to activate it, adds an interesting layer to the interactions, which I found to be funny and engaging.
Areas of Concern
However, as the story progressed, I started to see some of the cracks that others have pointed out. I felt that the pacing became inconsistent, with some tense moments dragging while others rushed by. The story has some inconsistencies, like how the MC can't remember parts of his past life, but remembers other parts of it. The romance, while present, felt secondary and somewhat forced, especially given the MC's initial reluctance and the tunnel vision regarding the original novel's plot. Also, the ending felt rushed, and the reveal of the MC being created from his brother's power came out of nowhere.

Overall, These Lunatics are Obsessed With Me is a mixed bag. While I enjoyed the humor, the action, and the initial premise, the inconsistent pacing, the forced romance, and the somewhat shallow character development left me feeling underwhelmed. It's a fun read if you're not looking for anything too deep or consistent, but don't expect a masterpiece of storytelling. I'd give it a solid 3.5 out of 5 stars.
