"The Villain Family's New Daughter-In-Law" promised a fluffy, heartwarming read, and for the most part, it delivered. I dove in expecting a sweet story of found family and a cute child protagonist, and I wasn't entirely disappointed. However, like any novel, it has its strengths and weaknesses.
First Impressions
Right off the bat, the sheer adorableness of the main character, Luciel, is undeniable. The story follows her journey as she's adopted into the "villain family," and the interactions between her and her new family are genuinely touching. It's the kind of story that makes you want to hug every character involved. The initial premise, while not entirely unique, hooked me in with the promise of a lighthearted escape.
What Works Well
The found family trope is definitely the strongest aspect of this novel. The author paints a vivid picture of a loving, if unconventional, family who dotes on Luciel. I particularly enjoyed the development of the characters and the way they communicated with each other. The absence of obsessive male characters was also a refreshing change. The sweet and fluffy scenes were plentiful, and the initial focus on the characters' childhoods felt well-developed. The relationship between Luciel and her love interest, while slow-burn, is undeniably cute.
Areas of Concern
Despite the charm, I did find some elements a bit lacking. The plot can feel somewhat illogical at times, requiring a suspension of disbelief. Some plot devices felt convenient, and I noticed a tendency for the author to introduce new information on the fly to resolve conflicts, which occasionally felt forced. The MC's knowledge of the future, while useful for the plot, sometimes felt a bit too convenient and unbelievable, given her past life circumstances. I also felt that the MC's personality could shift inconsistently depending on what the plot demanded.
