Humans can’t be trusted… One cheats you, the other steals your water… Hmm… This Shang Jiyu guy is not as bad as the others… But only sometimes, which is weird…Illiterate? You’re the illiterate one! The Last Dragon in the Cultivation World Review & Spoilers - Novel Translator

My Thoughts on The Last Dragon in the Cultivation World

First Impressions

Alright, let's dive into The Last Dragon in the Cultivation World. When I first started, I was immediately drawn in by the premise: a lazy dragon wakes up after ten thousand years to find he's the last of his kind, his lake is gone, and he has a new bride waiting for him. The comedic elements, right from the start, promised a light and fluffy read, which is exactly what I needed. The short length of 42 chapters also made it seem like a quick and enjoyable journey.

What Works Well

What really stood out to me was the sheer imagination of the world. This isn't your typical cultivation novel. The author has crafted a unique setting with memorable characters, like the pun-loving magpie demon cultivator. I particularly enjoyed the protagonist, Xiaoshen, the last dragon. His lack of common sense in the face of a xianxia world was genuinely funny, and his interactions with the male lead, Shang Jiyu, were often cute and engaging. The plot, while not deeply complex, had enough twists and turns to keep me invested, especially in the latter half. I found the ending surprisingly moving, considering the overall comedic tone.

Areas of Concern

While I mostly enjoyed my time with this novel, there were a few aspects that didn't quite hit the mark for me. The romance, while present, felt a little rushed and underdeveloped at times. I wish there had been more focus on the characters' relationship and how their feelings evolved. Additionally, I can see why some might find the protagonist annoying. Xiaoshen's laziness and occasional lack of consideration could be off-putting for some readers.

Final Verdict

Overall, The Last Dragon in the Cultivation World is a fun, lighthearted read that I would recommend if you're looking for something short, sweet, and imaginative. While it might not be a masterpiece, it's a well-compacted story with engaging characters and a satisfying conclusion. Just be aware that the romance might not be the strongest point, and the protagonist's personality might not appeal to everyone. I'd give it a solid 4 out of 5 stars.
