My Thoughts on The Genius Professor Wants An Easy Life
The Genius Professor Wants An Easy Life promised a clever protagonist navigating an academy setting with a desire for a simple life. While there were elements that initially drew me in, the execution ultimately left me feeling a bit underwhelmed. It's a novel with some intriguing ideas, but several aspects keep it from reaching its full potential.
First Impressions
The premise is definitely catchy. A protagonist aiming for an "easy life" in a world of magic and academies? Sign me up! The early chapters held promise, with a glimpse of a cunning MC and an interesting magic system. The cover art is fantastic and pulled me in instantly!
What Works Well
The MC, Van, is undoubtedly a highlight. His cleverness and sly nature are appealing, and the unintentional arrogance stemming from his abilities does provide some comedic relief. I particularly enjoyed the misunderstandings surrounding his actions, which often lead to him being perceived as more self-sacrificing than he intends. The world-building had some interesting ideas, but it did not measure up to my expectations.
Areas of Concern
Unfortunately, the novel stumbles in several key areas. The character interactions often felt shallow, with supporting characters quickly becoming overly adoring of the MC, which became repetitive. The biggest issue, for me, was the "tell, don't show" narration style. Events felt rushed, and the world-building, while initially intriguing, lacked depth. I also struggled with the repetitive cycle of villains appearing, being defeated, and then another one showing up. The ending felt rushed and didn't do justice to what had been built earlier in the story.
Final Verdict
The Genius Professor Wants An Easy Life is a mixed bag. While the MC and some initial concepts are appealing, the shallow character interactions, rushed pacing, and weak world-building ultimately detract from the experience. The ending, in particular, left me feeling unsatisfied. It's a novel that might provide some light entertainment if you're willing to turn off your brain, but it falls short of being a truly memorable read. I'd give it a 3/5.
