Description
Chinese pastry chef Shu Yanyan crossed over to the interstellar world and found an Alpha beauty who had lost her memory. The beauty was obedient and sweet, and Shu Yanyan couldn’t resist her charms. They quickly fell in love and gave birth to an incredibly adorable baby girl. Unfortunately, their happiness didn’t last long as her beautiful wife disappeared before their child even turned one year old. Shu Yanyan was heartbroken but didn’t give up hope. She raised their baby on her own while working hard to earn money, hoping to hire the best agency to find her missing wife. Two years later, she saved up enough money and traveled to a neighboring Empire to seek better opportunities. On this particular day, which happened to be the celebration day of the Huaqi Empire, every tall building projected the image of a person along with a text: As Shu Yanyan looked at the face of the female “Emperor” she fell into deep contemplation. Wasn’t this her missing beautiful wife from two years ago?!

My Thoughts on Tasty, Not Sweet
"Tasty, Not Sweet" promised a delightful blend of comedy, drama, and romance in a yuri omegaverse setting. While it had its moments, I found myself ultimately agreeing with the general sentiment that it was just... okay. It wasn't bad, but it didn't quite reach its full potential, leaving me with a slightly bittersweet aftertaste.
First Impressions
The initial setup definitely grabbed my attention. Amnesia, a single omega parent, and a long-lost alpha returning to the picture? It had all the ingredients for a compelling and heartwarming story. I was eager to see how the author would navigate the complexities of rekindled love and the challenges of family life.
What Works Well
The core of the story – the relationship between the two female leads and their child – was undoubtedly the strongest aspect. The child, Yunmiao, was genuinely cute and added a layer of sweetness to the narrative. I appreciated how she served as a catalyst for the leads' interactions and emotional growth, rather than just being a prop. The translation was also well done, which allowed me to easily immerse myself in the story.
Areas of Concern
However, as the story progressed, I couldn't help but notice some glaring issues. The plot felt rushed, and several potentially interesting subplots were either dropped or resolved too quickly. The world-building felt shallow. I also felt that the author missed an opportunity to explore the emotional complexities of the amnesiac alpha, Chu Yu. The omega, Shu Yanyan, accepts Chu Yu far too quickly. Furthermore, the reasons for Chu Yu's amnesia are glossed over. The story felt rushed and incomplete.

Final Verdict
Overall, "Tasty, Not Sweet" is a light and fluffy read that might appeal to those looking for a quick and easy yuri romance with a cute child. However, if you're seeking a more complex and nuanced story with well-developed characters and a satisfying resolution to all plot threads, you might find yourself wanting more. I'd give it a solid 3/5 stars – enjoyable enough, but ultimately forgettable.
