First Impressions
Going into "She’s Really Hard to Coax," I expected a light, fluffy revenge story, maybe with a dash of romance. The synopsis definitely gives off that vibe. However, I quickly realized this novel delves into much darker and more complex themes than anticipated. It's a story about trauma, healing, and the slow, painstaking process of finding solace in another person. It's definitely not your average face-slapping C-novel.
What Works Well
One of the strongest aspects of this novel is its portrayal of trauma. The female lead (FL) is not bright and bubbly, and her coldness is understandable given her experiences. The male lead (ML), while initially appearing to be the typical cold CEO, is surprisingly emotionally intelligent and supportive. He's a definite green flag, consistently respecting her boundaries and offering unwavering support without being overbearing. Their relationship is built on trust and understanding, which is refreshing. I appreciated the lack of typical drama such as love triangles or pointless misunderstandings fueled by other women. The characters are well-developed and likable, despite their flaws, making it easy to become invested in their journey.
Areas of Concern
The writing style took a bit of getting used to. The short, choppy sentences sometimes felt forced and detracted from the flow of the story. While it improved as I read on, it was initially distracting. I also felt that some plot threads were left unresolved, leaving me with lingering questions.
