My Thoughts on She Was No Different From a Beast
"She Was No Different From a Beast" is a wild ride, and I mean that in the best possible way. This story grabbed me from the get-go with its absurd premise and commitment to comedic chaos. It's not every day you read about a corporate slave reincarnated as a super-strong toddler, but here we are, and I'm thoroughly entertained.
First Impressions
The opening is pure gold. Our protagonist, weary of corporate life, seemingly throws himself at a water deer with reckless abandon, leading to, well, a new life. The reincarnation aspect is definitely a familiar trope, but the "TS buff" is anything but typical. We're talking water deer-level strength and resilience in a modern-day setting. It's bonkers, and I loved it.
What Works Well
The humor is definitely the strongest aspect of this novel. The internal monologues of the protagonist, now a child with the mind of a world-weary adult and the body of a pint-sized powerhouse, are consistently hilarious. The contrast between her past life and her current situation, combined with her newfound abilities, creates endless opportunities for comedic gold. The author does a fantastic job of capturing the rambunctious nature of a child while layering in the cynicism of someone who's been through the corporate grind. I also appreciate the slow burn. The story isn't rushing; it's taking its time exploring the protagonist's early childhood and the reactions of those around her.
Areas of Concern
One aspect that might not appeal to all readers is the blend of childish innocence and mature thoughts. While I personally found it funny, I can see how it might be jarring for some. The story is also still relatively early in its translation, so it's hard to say where the author plans to take it. But for now, it's a fun and engaging read.
Final Verdict
If you're looking for a novel that doesn't take itself too seriously and is guaranteed to make you laugh, "She Was No Different From a Beast" is definitely worth checking out. It's a unique take on the reincarnation genre with a healthy dose of absurdity and a protagonist you can't help but root for. I'm eagerly awaiting future chapters and seeing where this wild journey takes us.
