My Thoughts on Seoul Station’s Necromancer
"Seoul Station’s Necromancer" had me hooked from the start with its intriguing premise: a protagonist returning from a harsh fantasy world to a changed Earth now plagued by dungeons. The initial chapters painted a picture of a compelling anti-hero, a necromancer who isn't afraid to get his hands dirty, and I was eager to see where the story would go. However, as I ventured further, some cracks began to appear.
First Impressions
The initial world-building is strong, and the concept of a necromancer adapting to modern-day Seoul is genuinely interesting. I appreciated the initial focus on the MC's personality, a blend of world-weariness and dark humor. The setup promised a unique take on the dungeon-crawler genre.
What Works Well
The MC's initial "don't mess with me" attitude is definitely entertaining. There are moments of genuine humor, especially in the protagonist's interactions with those around him. He's not afraid to be ruthless, and that initially set him apart from more typical, goody-two-shoes protagonists. I also enjoyed the blend of action and supernatural elements, creating a fast-paced and engaging read.
Areas of Concern
As the story progressed, I started to see some of the issues raised by other readers. The plot seemed to lose focus, and the initial charm of the MC began to wane. There was a sense of missed potential, particularly with the world-building. The unique premise seemed to give way to more generic tropes, which was disappointing. Some reviewers also expressed concerns about the logic of the plot and the MC's actions, finding them inconsistent or even irrational. The shift in the protagonist's personality, from a ruthless survivor to something more generic, also bothered me. He seemed to lose some of what made him interesting in the first place.

Final Verdict
"Seoul Station’s Necromancer" has its moments, particularly in the early chapters. However, the story suffers from a loss of focus and character inconsistencies. While the initial premise is promising, the execution falters as the plot progresses. Ultimately, while it might be an enjoyable read for some, I can't wholeheartedly recommend it due to its uneven quality.
