- Regression Is Too Much

Description
One day, a Tower appeared, and with it a proclamation by God that humanity is to be judged for becoming too corrupt. Regression… It’s an ability so fraudulent that it hardly needs further explanation. And yes, I also agree that it is a fraudulent ability, but… Isn’t it too much to regress due to just the slightest injury…?

My Thoughts on Regression Is Too Much
"Regression Is Too Much" had me hooked from the start. It's a regression story with a twist, and while it shares some similarities with other novels in the genre, it carves out its own unique space with its focus on character development and the psychological toll of constant regression.
First Impressions
I initially went in expecting a lighthearted take on the regression trope. What I found was a surprisingly deep dive into the protagonist's mental state as he grapples with his unique ability. The premise is simple: Kim Jun-ho, our MC, gains the power to regress, but the catch is that he regresses upon receiving even the slightest injury. This seemingly overpowered ability quickly becomes a curse, forcing him to meticulously plan and execute every action.
What Works Well
The character development is phenomenal. Jun-ho isn't your typical overpowered protagonist. He's smart, but not superhumanly so, and his growth feels earned. The author does a fantastic job of portraying the emotional and mental strain he endures with each regression. I also appreciate how the side characters aren't just plot devices. Choi Ji-won, the female lead, is a strong and well-developed character with her own motivations and backstory. Her relationship with Jun-ho is a highlight, and I found myself invested in their dynamic.
The world-building is also well-executed. The tower isn't just a series of combat floors; each floor presents unique challenges and scenarios that require Jun-ho to think outside the box. The author also explores the ethical implications of regression and the impact it has on Jun-ho's relationships with others. He actively fights against becoming the typical emotionless regressor, which I found refreshing.
Areas of Concern
The pacing can be slow at times. The tutorial arc, in particular, can feel like it drags on for too long. I also noticed that some readers felt the focus on romance detracted from the main plot. While I enjoyed the relationship between Jun-ho and Ji-won, I can see how it might not appeal to everyone. Additionally, the sporadic translation schedule can be frustrating for those who prefer to read consistently.

Final Verdict
Despite its flaws, "Regression Is Too Much" is a compelling and thought-provoking novel. The unique premise, well-developed characters, and focus on psychological and emotional themes make it stand out in the regression genre. If you enjoy character-driven stories with a touch of humor and don't mind a slower pace, I highly recommend giving this one a try.
