It's a recipe for both comedic misunderstandings and heartwarming character development, and for the most part, the novel delivers.

Initially, I was drawn in by the sheer absurdity of the concept. A naive dating sim NPC in a terrifying survival game? Sign me up! I was curious to see how the author would balance the lightheartedness of the MC's personality with the often-grim setting. I quickly got pulled in by the fresh take on the often rigid horror game genre, and was pleasantly surprised by the reason for the games creation.
What Works Well
The protagonist, Zhou Zhou, is definitely the star of the show. He's innocent and lacks common sense due to his background, but he's also intelligent and adapts quickly. Watching him learn about the world and form genuine connections with others was incredibly satisfying. His inherent "lovableness," designed into his very being, leads to hilarious situations and touching moments. I also appreciated the male lead, Alvia. He's powerful, but not in a domineering way, and he genuinely cares for Zhou Zhou's growth and well-being. The romance is a slow burn, which felt appropriate given Zhou Zhou's initial lack of understanding of romantic love. The side characters are also well-developed, each with their own distinct personalities and relationships, making the world feel more alive. Some of them were a little slow on the uptake, but I can forgive that!
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the overall story, the "horror" aspect was definitely lacking for me. If you're expecting a truly terrifying experience, you might be disappointed.
