Description
At Ningcheng Foreign Language High School, there are two goddesses among the teachers—one is cold and reserved, the other is dazzling and bold. One buttons her shirt all the way up, while the other wears skirts with high slits. It’s obvious to everyone that these two are natural-born rivals. Even the students speculate that the strict Ms. Meng must secretly despise Ms. Cheng. But only Meng Wanji knows the truth: her intense feelings for Cheng Jinshu aren’t hatred, but a burning attraction. While her mouth says, ‘Please behave yourself,’ her heart screams, ‘I really like her.’ ‘You lead me out of winter, and I will accompany you into spring. Because of you, I look forward to the seasons of life.’

My Thoughts on Like Heaven and Earth
"Like Heaven and Earth" is a completed yuri novel that definitely sparked some strong feelings in readers, and after diving in, I can see why. With its focus on drama, romance, and a modern-day setting featuring teachers, it promised an emotional rollercoaster. Did it deliver? Well, it's complicated.
First Impressions
Going in, I was intrigued by the "adapted to drama cd" tag. That usually hints at a story with strong character dynamics and engaging dialogue. The premise of two women navigating love amidst societal expectations and personal baggage definitely had potential. However, I quickly realized this wasn't going to be a straightforward romance.
What Works Well
The novel shines in its portrayal of Wanji. She's the adopted eldest daughter, burdened by expectations and family drama. Her internal struggles and her attempts to navigate a complicated family dynamic felt authentic. I appreciated the author's exploration of her character, showcasing her strength even when she appeared to be simply complying with her father's wishes. The author excels at creating a character who is not naive, but very self-aware.
Areas of Concern
While Wanji is compelling, the character of Jinshu proved to be more divisive. Her "carefree" and "in-the-moment" attitude, while initially appealing, seemed to be a source of constant misunderstandings and conflict. Some readers might find Jinshu's actions frustrating, especially her willingness to accept breakups without a fight. Personally, I found that her character arc needed more depth, as I felt as though she was too willing to accept whatever Wanji said, without standing up for herself and her love. The constant push-and-pull dynamic between the two characters grew tiresome, and the fact that the relationship was always up to Wanji to fix was a bit disappointing.

Final Verdict
"Like Heaven and Earth" is a novel that elicits strong reactions. While the rich family issues, push-and-pull dynamics, and misunderstandings may not appeal to everyone, the exploration of complex characters and the challenges of love make it a worthwhile read for those who enjoy dramatic yuri stories. Just be prepared for an emotional journey filled with both heartwarming moments and frustrating conflicts.
