My Thoughts on L*ck Me If You Can
This novel has been quite the ride! Going in, I knew it was connected to other works in the series, specifically as a prequel, but I tried to approach it with fresh eyes. "L*ck Me If You Can" is a story that definitely evokes strong opinions, and I can see why.
First Impressions
Initially, I was a little wary. Knowing some readers were already familiar with Ash and Koi as less-than-ideal parents in other stories, I was prepared to dislike them. However, the high school setting was surprisingly well-executed, and I quickly found myself drawn into their unlikely romance.
What Works Well
The core of the story, the relationship between Ashley and Koi, is undeniably compelling. I appreciated Koi's character – he's portrayed as gentle, humble, and hardworking, which is a refreshing change of pace. Ashley, despite some of his later behaviors, is depicted as genuinely caring, and the novel does a solid job of portraying their initial connection. I also found the clear communication between the leads a refreshing change from the usual tropes. The author built a world that allowed for omegaverse elements while still prioritizing consent, which is always a plus.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed much of the novel, I do see some of the criticisms raised. The time skip, while necessary for the plot, seemed to introduce some inconsistencies. I can understand why some readers found Ashley's later actions, especially with his children, problematic. The ending, while providing closure, left a somewhat bitter taste for some readers. The dependence and unresolved traumas certainly cast a shadow over the characters' happily ever after.

Final Verdict
"L*ck Me If You Can" is a complex and at times angsty read. It's definitely not a light and fluffy romance, but it explores deeper themes of trauma, family, and the lasting effects of the past. While the ending may not be perfect for everyone, the journey of Ash and Koi is ultimately a worthwhile one, especially if you're invested in the larger universe. I'd recommend it with the caveat that it's a mature story with potentially triggering content.
