My Thoughts on I’ll Just Be Friends With My Ex-Husband
I went into "I’ll Just Be Friends With My Ex-Husband" with high hopes, intrigued by the premise of a reborn couple navigating their relationship with a new perspective. The tags – comedy, fantasy, and romance – seemed like a winning combination, and the European ambience promised a delightful setting. However, my reading experience was a bit of a rollercoaster.
First Impressions
The initial chapters hooked me with the mystery surrounding the multiple rebirths and the ML's involvement. It’s an interesting twist to have the male lead be the one orchestrating the time loops. I was eager to see how their dynamic would unfold in this new timeline.
What Works Well
The underlying plot, especially the fantasy elements intertwined with medical research, held my attention. The idea of the ML meticulously researching the disease that plagued the FL in a previous life is compelling. I also appreciate the translation team's efforts, as they've done a great job bringing this story to an English-speaking audience.
Areas of Concern
My biggest issue lies with the female lead. While the concept of a 30-year-old soul in an 8-year-old body is interesting, the execution fell a bit flat for me. I found it difficult to reconcile her supposed maturity with her actions. The constant reminders of her age felt forced, and the bickering with her brother, while intended to be comedic, often came across as grating. I struggled to find the wisdom of a grown woman in her thoughts and decisions. The "peanut brother" talk also felt repetitive and unnecessary.
Furthermore, the romance felt somewhat rushed and unconvincing. I didn't quite buy into the FL's feelings for the ML, especially considering the perceived lack of affection he showed her in previous lives. The communication between them seemed lacking, and I found myself wondering where the friendship that supposedly existed before their marriage went.

Final Verdict
"I’ll Just Be Friends With My Ex-Husband" has potential, but it needs some work, particularly in the characterization of the female lead. The fantasy and medical research aspects are intriguing, but the execution of the FL's "adult" arc leaves much to be desired. While some may find the slow-burn romance charming, I felt it was somewhat forced. I'm on the fence about continuing, hoping that the FL will mature and the plot will deepen, but for now, it's a mixed bag.
