My Thoughts on I Will Save The Princess
"I Will Save The Princess" promised a dark, politically charged romance, and while it delivered on some aspects, it ultimately left me feeling a bit underwhelmed. It's a novel I found myself enjoying in moments, but also struggling to fully connect with.
First Impressions
The premise itself is intriguing: a noblewoman, Hannah, serving as a handmaid to a princess, Ophelia, offers herself to the emperor, Locar, in order to protect her charge. This set the stage for what I expected to be a story filled with tension, courtly intrigue, and a morally grey male lead. Unfortunately, that wasn't quite the experience I had.
What Works Well
The strongest element of the story, for me, was the relationship between Hannah and Ophelia. Their bond is genuinely sweet, and the author does a good job of portraying their affection and loyalty to one another. Hannah's intelligence and determination, despite her perceived weakness, also made her a likeable protagonist. The translation, for the most part, felt smooth and easy to read, which definitely enhanced my overall experience.
Areas of Concern
My biggest issue lies with the male lead, Locar. While he's clearly intended to be a morally questionable, domineering figure, he fell flat. I found it difficult to connect with him or understand his motivations. The political intrigue also felt superficial, serving more as a backdrop than a driving force in the narrative. The smut scenes, while present, felt forced and lacked the emotional depth that would have made them truly engaging. This novel had so much potential, but it just didn't quite live up to it.

Final Verdict
"I Will Save The Princess" is an okay read if you're looking for something to pass the time, particularly if you enjoy the "cute children" trope and a strong female lead. However, if you're seeking a truly compelling dark romance with complex characters and intricate political maneuvering, you might be left wanting more. I'd give it a tentative recommendation, but with the caveat that it's not a groundbreaking or particularly memorable read.
