My Thoughts on I Thought I Was The Main Character
I dove into "I Thought I Was The Main Character" with high hopes, intrigued by its premise of a protagonist transmigrating into a romance fantasy novel and hilariously believing she's the main character. It's a fun concept, and for a while, it really delivered on that promise.
First Impressions
Initially, I was charmed by the MC's perceived "chuunibyou" attitude and her determination, even if she's a bit misguided. The story sucked me in with its European ambience and the promise of a lighthearted romance. The early chapters did a great job of setting up the world and the potential love interests, even if the timeline jumps around a bit.
What Works Well
The biggest strength of this novel, for me, is the MC's growth. She starts off with this naive, game-like perspective, but slowly begins to realize the world is more complex than she initially thought. I appreciated that she wasn't just treating everyone as NPCs, and that she genuinely tried to connect with the people around her. Her interactions, especially as a child, felt authentic and endearing. I also liked the slow-burn romance. The fact that the male leads' favorability isn't immediately romantic adds a layer of realism and intrigue.
Areas of Concern
However, as I progressed, some cracks started to appear. I can see why some readers might feel misled by the synopsis. The "main" plot, where she actually starts pursuing the love interests, seems to take a long time to get to, with a significant portion of the story dedicated to character development and world-building beforehand.

Final Verdict
"I Thought I Was The Main Character" has a lot of potential and starts off strong with a fun premise and a relatable protagonist. However, the pacing issues and the potentially unsatisfying ending are significant drawbacks. If you're willing to invest in a slow-burn story focused on character development, you might enjoy it. But be warned, the payoff might not be what you expect.
