My Thoughts on I Fell in Love at First Sight, Sir Hidden Villain!
"I Fell in Love at First Sight, Sir Hidden Villain!" is a web novel that promised a blend of romance, comedy, mystery, and a dash of Sherlock Holmes inspiration. Having dived in, I can say it mostly delivers, though with a few caveats. The story follows a female lead who finds herself in a novel, immediately suspecting the male lead of being a serial killer.
First Impressions
My initial impression was definitely hooked by the premise. The idea of a transmigration story mixed with a murder mystery and a healthy dose of romantic comedy felt fresh. The early chapters were quite amusing, especially with the female lead's over-the-top confessions and the male lead's bewildered reactions. I was laughing out loud at his tea-spitting moment!
What Works Well
The humor is definitely a strong point. The interactions between the leads are often hilarious, and the side characters add to the comedic effect. I particularly enjoyed the Sherlock Holmes references sprinkled throughout the story; it added a layer of charm. The plot is well-built, and the characters are interesting, with the female lead being clever and resourceful. Many readers praised the male lead's character development, noting how he goes from a seemingly cold duke to a "sweet doof" completely smitten by the female lead. I also appreciated the fact that the female lead isn't a know-it-all, making her more relatable.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the overall story, I can see where some readers might find fault. The male lead's initial behavior could be interpreted as problematic. Some readers felt that he was overly jealous and controlling, with his reactions to the female lead's interactions with other men and even her clothing choices. Also, the female lead falling for a murder suspect was a sticking point for some. It stretched my suspension of disbelief a bit, even in a fantasy setting. Additionally, the reliance on "falling into his arms" moments as a romantic trope felt a little overused.

Final Verdict
Despite some flaws, "I Fell in Love at First Sight, Sir Hidden Villain!" is an enjoyable and entertaining read. The humor, the unique plot, and the engaging characters make it a worthwhile choice if you're looking for a lighthearted romantic comedy with a dash of mystery. I'd give it a solid 3.5 out of 5 stars. It's not perfect, but it's a fun ride.
