My Thoughts on Half Of Me
"Half Of Me" is a unique story that really stuck with me. Blending elements of comedy, drama, and the supernatural with a mature romance, it’s a novel that surprised me in many ways. While the pacing is slow, the overall experience was definitely worth the investment.
First Impressions
Initially, the body swap premise intrigued me. The idea of the main character navigating between his own body and that of a bullied kid, Taekin, felt fresh. I was quickly drawn into the mystery of why this was happening and how he would resolve Taekin's problems to return to his own life. The early chapters had a good balance of humor and suspense, pulling me in effectively.
What Works Well
I really enjoyed the character development, especially the slow-burn romance between the MC and the gym teacher, ML. It takes a while for their relationship to blossom, but the chemistry is undeniable. I appreciated that the characters are portrayed as hardworking adults who are generally good at communicating, minimizing unnecessary misunderstandings. The exploration of deeper themes, like trauma, abandonment, and facing the hidden parts of ourselves, adds a layer of emotional depth. The title "Half of Me" takes on a profound meaning as the story progresses, symbolizing the hidden aspects of ourselves that we often fear to confront. The MC's personal growth, as he learns to address his past and open up to ML, is particularly well done.
Areas of Concern
The slow pacing, while enjoyable for some, might not appeal to all readers. The romance truly develops towards the end of the main story, which could be a drawback for those seeking a more immediate romantic connection.
