My Thoughts on Dungeon Gourmet
"Dungeon Gourmet" is a web novel that immediately grabbed my attention with its bizarre yet compelling premise. A reincarnated protagonist, a century spent as a monstrous spider, and a newfound craving for monster meat? It's definitely not your typical fantasy fare.
First Impressions
The initial chapters are a whirlwind of information. We're thrown into the deep end as the MC grapples with regaining his human consciousness after a century spent as a dungeon-conquering spider. The sheer absurdity of waking up to find you've devoured a hero really sets the stage for a unique story. It's a bit of an info dump at first, but I found it necessary to build the world and the MC's complicated situation.
What Works Well
The world-building is fascinating. The concept of a reincarnated soul grappling with the consequences of their monstrous past is compelling. I particularly enjoyed the exploration of the MC's unique predicament. He's a glutton, having spent 100 years consuming human flesh and raw monsters, so once he regains his human form, he finds human food to be tasteless. This leads him to a life of dungeon delving, not just for mercenary work, but also to satisfy his unusual palate. The idea of him bringing his own cooking equipment into dungeons for gourmet monster meals is both hilarious and strangely appealing. This is a uniquely set and graphically described novel that many readers will appreciate.
Areas of Concern
While the premise is strong, I did find myself wanting a bit more depth from the MC's initial reactions. His coping mechanisms felt a little ordinary, and his mentality seemed somewhat weak considering his past experiences. I would have liked to see a bit more exploration of the trauma and psychological impact of his century-long monsterhood. However, this is still early in the story, and I'm hopeful that the MC will grow and develop as the plot progresses.

Final Verdict
Overall, "Dungeon Gourmet" is a promising web novel with a unique and engaging premise. Despite some minor concerns about the MC's initial development, the fascinating world-building, the bizarre concept, and the promise of gourmet monster cuisine make it a worthwhile read. I'm giving it a solid 4 out of 5 stars and eagerly await future chapters to see where this monstrously delicious adventure takes us.
