First Impressions
Initially, I was hooked by the intriguing premise and the way the story unfolds across different timelines. The mystery surrounding the male lead (ML) is captivating, and I found myself eager to piece together the puzzle of his past and motivations. The setup is undeniably strong, drawing you into a world of complex relationships and simmering tension.
What Works Well
The author excels at creating a disturbingly realistic portrayal of obsessive attachment. It's not the romanticized version we often see; it's raw, suffocating, and genuinely unsettling. I appreciated how the tension gradually builds, transforming the ML from seemingly harmless to increasingly possessive and frightening. The characters themselves are well-developed, with their backstories revealed in fragments that slowly paint a grim picture. I found myself understanding, though not necessarily excusing, their actions. The writing is top-notch, especially when it comes to handling the intense subject matter. The author does a great job of explaining character motivations without ever justifying their behavior, which is a crucial distinction in a story like this.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the novel overall, I did feel that the quality dipped a bit towards the end. The pacing faltered, and I started to lose interest in the plot. The MC, while understandable given his circumstances, can be a bit frustrating at times. His obsession with appearing "normal" and his constant worrying about others' opinions felt repetitive. The ML's behavior, while fitting for a yandere character, occasionally crossed the line into being simply annoying and overly emotional.
