Description
“I don’t have much time to live.” “Is dying something special? It’s nothing much, you know.” A sudden onset of gastric cancer. His given time, D-180. Hajin, who was sentenced to a time limit, quietly visits a quiet seaside village to end his life. There he meets Jonghwa, a dirty, rude and ignorant man. Unlike his bad first impression, the time he spends with Jonghwa becomes enjoyable. He also feels his heart pounding for the first time in his life. “Jonghwa.” “…” “Should we love each other a little bit?” “…” “Not much. Just a little bit.” “Can’t we love each other more than that?” Obviously, death is not regrettable but lingering feelings for his life continue to arise. However, Hajin’s physical condition starts to get worse. Time flies so fast that it is close to D-day. “Shin Jonghwa.” “…What?” “Let’s meet in our next life too.” “…What, f*ck…what do you mean next life…” “Just. There might be another life. So let’s meet once then, okay? Just once.” “…” “And love each other once then, to our heart’s content.”

My Thoughts on D Minus
"D Minus" promised a bittersweet journey, and it certainly delivered. Diving into a story tagged with "tragedy" and "terminal illness," I knew I was in for an emotional ride, and this novel didn't hold back. It’s a relatively short read, which, in some ways, made the impact all the more potent.
First Impressions
Initially, the setup felt familiar – a dying MC meets a rough-around-the-edges ML. It's a trope I've seen before, but the raw vulnerability promised in the synopsis piqued my interest. I was curious to see how the author would navigate such heavy themes.
What Works Well
The heart of this story lies in the evolving relationship between the two main characters. Watching them slowly understand each other, bridging the gap between their vastly different worlds, was genuinely moving. The ML's initial ignorance and the MC's patient guidance created a dynamic that felt both authentic and compelling. I particularly enjoyed seeing the MC teach the ML, not just literacy, but also about self-worth and how he deserved to be treated. Their love story, born from such difficult circumstances, felt earned and poignant. The character growth, especially the ML's transformation, was a definite highlight.

Final Verdict
Despite the heavy subject matter, "D Minus" is a story that lingers. It's not a lighthearted read, but it's a deeply affecting one. If you're prepared for an emotional rollercoaster and appreciate character-driven narratives, I think you'll find something worthwhile here. Just be sure to have tissues ready.
