My Thoughts on Conscience Issue?
"Conscience Issue?" definitely piqued my interest with its blend of adult themes, legal drama, and a touch of the underworld. The premise alone – a rural lawyer entangled with a gangster – is enough to make me want to dive in. And while it wasn't a perfect read, it offered a compelling story with some truly memorable moments.
First Impressions
The initial chapters set the stage well, introducing us to the aloof MC and the rather…unconventional ML. I can see how some readers might be put off by the ML's forwardness; his "baby" talk is certainly an acquired taste. However, I found myself becoming endeared to his persistence and genuine affection for the MC. The slow burn romance is also very evident from the start, the initial conflict between the characters is quite palpable and immediately draws you in.
What Works Well
Character growth is a major strength of this novel. Watching the MC slowly shed his emotional barriers and confront his past was incredibly satisfying. The ML is undoubtedly a green flag, consistently supporting the MC without being overbearing (once you get past the initial shock of his personality!). I also appreciated the comedic undertones that balanced out the heavier themes. The side characters added another layer of enjoyment, making the world feel more vibrant and alive. The intimate scenes were well-written, striking a good balance between description and emotional connection. I found them to be consensual and emotionally driven, which is always a plus in my book. The plot itself, while containing familiar tropes, is engaging, especially the arc focusing on the MC's revenge against his ex.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the story overall, there were a few minor issues. There were moments where the MC's behavior felt a bit frustrating. His tendency to lash out and push people away, despite his growing feelings, became a little repetitive. I do wish that the villain had a more impactful downfall.

Despite some minor flaws, "Conscience Issue?" is a worthwhile read, particularly if you enjoy slow-burn romances with character growth, comedic elements, and a genuinely supportive ML.
