My Thoughts on A Horror Novel’s Supporting Character Wants to Live as a Human
"A Horror Novel’s Supporting Character Wants to Live as a Human" is a title that immediately grabbed my attention. The premise – a protagonist transmigrating into a horror novel as a supporting character – is rife with potential. After diving in, I found a story with some compelling elements, though not without its flaws.
First Impressions
My first impression was definitely colored by the strong Cthulhu-esque vibes. The medieval setting mixed with dark fantasy creates a sense of unease that I appreciate. The initial chapters introduce Arenheit, our MC, as he grapples with his new reality. It's clear early on that this world is dangerous, filled with secrets and horrors lurking beneath the surface.
What Works Well
One of the strongest aspects of this novel is the exploration of the time loop mechanic. Each loop offers a chance to delve deeper into the world, uncovering new facets of the characters and the overarching plot. I especially enjoyed the evolving portrayal of the crown prince, Yurik. His malice and the different relationships he forms with Arenheit in each iteration are fascinating. The author does a great job of keeping things fresh, even when revisiting familiar territory. The emotional weight of Arenheit's past, particularly his relationship with his younger brother, adds a layer of tragedy that resonated with me. The author does a great job of making me feel the tragedy of the situation.
Areas of Concern
While the plot has its strengths, I did find some inconsistencies. At times, the characters' actions felt illogical or driven solely by the plot, rather than genuine motivations. This occasionally broke my immersion and made it difficult to fully connect with their struggles. The MC's initial lack of awareness of the horror elements also felt a bit jarring.

Final Verdict
Despite some flaws in character consistency and plot logic, "A Horror Novel’s Supporting Character Wants to Live as a Human" offers a compelling and tragic narrative. The time loop mechanic, the intriguing antagonist, and the exploration of loss make it a worthwhile read for fans of dark fantasy and horror. While it may require some suspension of disbelief, the emotional depth and the constant unveiling of new secrets kept me engaged. I would recommend giving it a try, especially if you're drawn to stories with Lovecraftian elements and complex character dynamics.
