The sarcasm was intriguing, and he found himself wanting to play along. “Witch of Mount Cithaeron, apothecary, I have a request.” “…” “Please accept me as a disciple.” But when they came face to face. ‘Whoa, what an ugly hag,’ Dionysus thought to himself.

My Thoughts on Wine and Poison
Alright, let's dive into "Wine and Poison." This one's been on my radar for a bit, and after taking the plunge, I have some thoughts to share. The premise alone – a god trying to woo a woman who wants to off one of his kind – is enough to pique anyone's interest, right? I'm always up for a unique romance, and this definitely seems to deliver on that front.
First Impressions
From the get-go, I was intrigued by the world the author built. It felt like a blend of historical fantasy with a dash of the divine, and that's a cocktail I can definitely get behind. The initial chapters did a solid job of setting the stage, introducing our main characters and hinting at the conflicts to come. I was especially drawn to the dynamic between Dionysus and his would-be assassin. The story had me hooked pretty quickly!
What Works Well
What I really appreciate about "Wine and Poison" is its willingness to play with established tropes. The romance isn't your typical "love at first sight" fairytale. It's messy, complicated, and driven by conflicting motivations. I also found the female lead to be refreshingly strong-willed and determined. She's not just a damsel in distress waiting to be rescued; she's got her own agenda, and she's not afraid to pursue it, even if it means going up against a god. The smut scenes are well written and add to the story, not detract.
Areas of Concern
If I had to nitpick, it would be in regards to the translation, I will admit that the translation quality could be improved. While mostly readable, there were a few instances where the phrasing felt a bit clunky or awkward. However, it wasn't anything that significantly detracted from my overall enjoyment of the story.

Overall, I'd say "Wine and Poison" is a worthwhile read if you're looking for something a little different.
