Why, Can’t You Eat? Review & Spoilers - Novel Translator
My Thoughts on Why, Can’t You Eat?
"Why, Can’t You Eat?" is quite the ride, and I came away with some mixed feelings. It's a novel that knows what it is, and for the most part, it delivers on that promise, but some elements held it back from being a truly great read for me.
First Impressions
Initially, I was drawn in by the premise of a female protagonist juggling her own personality with that of a succubus. This dual identity is a strong hook. The dynamic between Lily and Lilith, the two sides of our MC, is definitely a driving force. It creates a fascinating internal conflict that propels the story forward. The European-inspired setting and the hints of aristocracy added to the allure, promising a blend of fantasy and romance.
What Works Well
The smut is definitely a key element here, and it's generally well-written and consensual, which is a refreshing change of pace in this genre. I appreciated how the author explored the relationships between the MC and her growing harem. The characters, while not incredibly deep, had distinct personalities, and I found myself invested in their interactions. I particularly enjoyed the focus on the main character's growth. The characters communicate well, so I found their emotions and interactions to be pretty mature and realistic. Also, I love that the author acknowledges the earlier dub-con in the later bits of the story.
Areas of Concern
However, I did find myself getting a bit frustrated with Lily's naivety at times. It felt like she was overly kind and naive, which can be a bit grating. I also felt that the plot can get a bit boring at times with too many conversations and interactions with the MC and the MLs. Also, I was hoping the author would go deeper into the MC's and MLs' past.

Final Verdict
Overall, "Why, Can’t You Eat?" is an enjoyable read if you're looking for a smut-heavy story with a reverse harem and don't mind some potential dub-con elements. The characters are interesting, the plot is engaging enough, and the smut is well-written. However, the issues with consent and the sometimes-frustrating nature of the main character do hold it back. I'd give it a tentative 3.5 out of 5 stars.
