Description
Kang I-bom. Kang I-bom is from the Kang family of dogs. But he’s not actually a real dog. He was born with the blood of a dog beastman, yet he’s not a full-fledged beastman. In other words, he’s a half-blood (반수인). A half-blood, forever caught in between. Neither fully human nor fully beastman. I-bom’s life isn’t easy. Amidst his busy, never-ending shifts at his part-time jobs, he unexpectedly encounters an enormous cat one day. Since it’s his first time seeing a real cat, he can’t help but feel excited. With his heart fluttering, he cautiously approaches the feline and speaks to it… * * * ‘What’s your name, pretty one?” I-bom whispers softly, meeting the cat’s gaze as he blinks slowly. “Weoong?” The cat responds with a sound. At that moment, a phrase from a documentary about beastman wildlife pops into his head. ‘If you don’t understand an animal’s language, try repeating the sound they make.’ Ah! That’s it! “We… oong?” When I-bom gently repeats the sound, the cat’s lazily swaying tail suddenly halts. Meanwhile… ‘…What?’ Eun Beom-ho’s black pupils sharpened as they glinted dangerously. He had playfully swayed his tail first, but he never expected such an intense reaction in return. ‘Weoong.’ That word was… bold. Shocking. Scandalous. In fact, according to Sacred Beast Wiki, it was ranked as the #1 phrase that young, underage beastmen should never say. ‘Weoong’ and ‘Weong’ were completely different. ‘Weong’ meant something casual, like “Damn it.” ‘Weoong’, however, meant “Let’s mate.” “Your name… So, you’re ‘Weoong’?” Oh my god. Did this bold little pup just ask to mate again? Since he was so insistent, Beom-ho figured it was only polite to respond in kind. “Waaark.” Yes. Let’s do it. I like you too. This adorable little pup, with his warm, irresistible scent, smelled utterly delicious to him.

My Thoughts on Universal Romance
Alright, let's dive into "Universal Romance." This one's been on my radar for a while, and after taking a look, I've got some thoughts. It definitely has some intriguing aspects, but it also has a few stumbling blocks that kept me from completely falling in love with it.
First Impressions
The initial setup is really promising. A caring, somewhat naive, half-human protagonist navigating a world filled with supernatural elements and handsome werebeasts? Sign me up! The early chapters do a good job of establishing the characters and the world, and the budding romance between the MC and ML is pretty cute. I was definitely hooked at the beginning.
What Works Well
The author clearly has a knack for creating endearing characters. The protagonist, despite some flaws I'll get into later, is genuinely likeable, and his interactions with the male lead have some real sparks. The world-building is also pretty solid, with the supernatural elements adding a layer of intrigue to the romance. When the story focuses on the relationship and the unique dynamic between the MC and his beast companion, it really shines. The smut scenes are well-written and definitely add to the adult appeal of the novel.
Areas of Concern
However, as the story progresses, I can see where some readers might get frustrated. It feels like the author introduces unnecessary drama, particularly with the MC's family. The constant barrage of problems and the MC's seemingly endless tolerance can become a bit exhausting. I found myself wanting to shake him and tell him to stand up for himself! It feels like the story gets bogged down in these repetitive conflicts, hindering the romance, which is a shame.

Final Verdict
Overall, "Universal Romance" has a lot of potential, and I think it will appeal to readers who enjoy a slow-burn romance with supernatural elements and plenty of angst. However, be prepared for some frustrating plot points and a protagonist who may test your patience. I'm giving it a tentative 3.5/5. I'm still curious to see where the story goes, but I hope the author addresses some of the pacing and character development issues soon.
