Description
Me, an ordinary librarian, is in a novel. I got possessed by the villain supporting role ‘Erika’. All I was given was an ending in which I was sentenced to beheading for taking part in the rebellion. It’s unfair to work as a librarian even after being possessed by a romance novel, but you can’t even cut your throat. I became a librarian at the Royal Library to survive… “The way the Reinhardt family repays their favor is deep and long. So I hope you enjoy it slowly.” Grand Duke Carlix, who’s the male lead, is chasing me around saying he’ll repay me. “If I had been born a man, I would have welcomed you as a companion.” Frisia, the female lead, has confessed with a friendly gaze. “I want to have you as my own royal librarian.” Crown Prince, the second male lead, takes attendance stamps at the library every day “Your life and even your soul are mine, my queen.” Even the villain Archduke Franz is obsessed with me? “Nothing is more important than your happiness as your guardian.” The only thing I can trust is William, the kind and friendly library manager… Can I go back to the original world?

My Thoughts on The Villainess Works In The Library
"The Villainess Works In The Library" had me hooked from the start with its intriguing premise. The idea of a protagonist transmigrating into the body of a villainess, specifically one who claims to be the last villainess, set my expectations high for a clever and engaging story. And while it certainly had its moments, my overall experience was a bit of a mixed bag.
First Impressions
The initial chapters are strong, immediately establishing the European-inspired setting and the protagonist's fish-out-of-water situation. The library setting itself is a unique and appealing backdrop, and I was eager to see how the story would unfold. The promise of aristocracy, handsome male leads, and a potential reverse harem definitely piqued my interest.
What Works Well
The world-building is well-executed, creating a believable and immersive environment. I appreciated the decent character development of the side characters and the overall writing style, which flowed smoothly and made the novel easy to read. The plot, with its secrets and schemes, had the potential to be truly captivating. I can definitely see the appeal for readers looking for a lighthearted fantasy romance with shoujo elements.
Areas of Concern
However, I found myself increasingly frustrated with the main character's actions and thought processes. Her apparent willful ignorance became a major stumbling block for me. Instead of actively engaging with the mysteries surrounding her, she repeatedly dismissed clues and reverted to focusing on mundane activities like book clubs. This created a sense of stagnation in the plot and made it difficult for me to connect with her. Furthermore, the romance felt unnecessarily drawn out and frustrating, as the protagonist's indecisiveness and constant back-and-forth with the male lead undermined the emotional impact of their interactions.

Final Verdict
Ultimately, "The Villainess Works In The Library" is a novel with a lot of potential that, in my opinion, isn't fully realized. The interesting plot, decent characters, and appealing setting are unfortunately overshadowed by the protagonist's frustrating behavior. While it may appeal to readers who enjoy slow-burn romances and don't mind a less proactive main character, I personally found it to be a somewhat disappointing read. I'd give it a 3 out of 5 stars.
