My Thoughts on The Villainess Doesn’t Want Love
"The Villainess Doesn’t Want Love" is a web novel that definitely took me on a rollercoaster of emotions, and while I see the appeal, I also found some aspects a little lacking. It’s a story about Karina, a woman who gets a second chance at life and decides she wants nothing more than a divorce from her cold husband, Jeremiah. But, as these stories often go, things don't go as planned.
First Impressions
Initially, I was drawn in by the premise. A strong female lead seeking to escape a miserable marriage? Sign me up! The European-esque setting and fantasy elements added a nice layer of intrigue. However, as I delved deeper, I started to notice some pacing issues that made the story feel slower than it should.
What Works Well
The character development, particularly Karina's, is a strong point. Watching her navigate the complexities of her past and present, all while trying to secure her freedom, was compelling. The angst and drama were definitely present, and there were moments of genuine emotional connection that resonated with me. I especially appreciated the moments where Karina stood her ground. The tension between Karina and the characters around her, especially the second male lead, Mikhail, was palpable and added a nice layer of spice to the narrative. I also enjoyed the unexpected plot twists near the ending, it's always nice to see a story subvert expectations.
Areas of Concern
My biggest issue lies with the pacing and some of the character motivations. The middle portion of the story felt unnecessarily drawn out, and Jeremiah's initial coldness, followed by his sudden obsession with Karina, felt a bit jarring. It's hard to believe in the remorse of someone who has been so cruel. Additionally, the "Saint" character felt a bit too extreme and one-dimensional for my taste. Her actions and beliefs, while contributing to the plot, didn't quite align with my understanding of what a "saint" should be, and it made her difficult to connect with.

Final Verdict
Overall, "The Villainess Doesn’t Want Love" is a decent read with some strong points, particularly in its character development and plot twists. However, the pacing issues, some questionable character motivations, and the handling of the second male lead held it back from reaching its full potential. I'd give it a tentative 3 out of 5 stars. It's worth a read if you enjoy angsty romance and don't mind a bit of a slow burn, but be prepared for some frustrating moments along the way.
