Description
Heartless: beings that are devoid of emotions and harm people like zombies. At some point, these Heartless began to appear in the world, threatening people’s safety. In response, a special organization called the Special Disaster Prevention Agency was established to address this changed world and the Heartless. Han Jemyung is a low-ranking employee of this agency. One day, due to an unresolved Heartless case from the past, Jemyung faces the risk of being fired. By chance, he meets CEO Na, the head of Pokei, an organization known as the top Heartless hunters. Thus, Jemyung gets entangled with Pokei. Somehow, Jemyung ends up being dispatched to Pokei, where he also gets involved with Director Kook, Pokei’s other co-head, with an oddly persistent connection… “That’s right. I like emotions. So I know that you weren’t actually in danger.” “What are you talking about? I was surrounded by high-risk Heartless in the lab! I got lucky and survived…” The words I was about to argue vanished in my mouth. I don’t know. A fear that the man in front of me knew everything about me washed over me. His cold gaze locked on me as he spoke in a low voice. “If you want to claim it was luck, go ahead. I don’t care what you did in that moment.” “Then what do you care about?” “You. You’re what I care about.” It was hard to swallow. It was hard to breathe. I tried to ignore every sensitive reaction and said, “It’s because of a grudge. I made you mad, but you didn’t get a chance to get back at me, and that’s why you feel this way.” “I don’t think that’s it.” “It is. There couldn’t be any other reason.” “Another reason?” He muttered as if talking to himself. “What if it’s because I like you?” “No. That’s impossible.” “I like you.” He tilted his head to the side. His dark eyes held my gaze. “I want to kiss you.”

My Thoughts on The Perfect
"The Perfect," a title that certainly sets expectations high, doesn't quite live up to its name, but it definitely delivers a compelling and entertaining read. After diving in, I can see why it's garnered a dedicated following, especially among those who enjoy a blend of action, comedy, and mature themes.
First Impressions
Initially, I was drawn in by the premise of a post-apocalyptic world with a comedic undertone. The manhwa adaptation piqued my interest, and I wanted to experience the original story firsthand. What I found was a narrative with surprising depth, despite its relatively short length.
What Works Well
The connection between the main characters is undeniably strong, and the way their fates intertwine is one of the novel's biggest strengths. Han Jemyung, the main character, is a refreshing take on the "hiding his past" trope. His cleverness and often unexpected actions provide plenty of laugh-out-loud moments, which I greatly appreciated amidst the heavier themes. The author's self-awareness and humorous approach to writing a self-insert character is also quite endearing. I found myself genuinely invested in the world-building, appreciating the intricacies and the surprising twists and turns. The comedic undertones are a welcome addition, preventing the story from becoming overly grim.
Areas of Concern
While I thoroughly enjoyed "The Perfect," there were a few areas where I felt it could have been stronger. The final boss fight felt rushed, and some plot points, such as the origin of the heartless and Han Jemyung's ability, weren't fully explored, leaving me with a sense of incompleteness. Also, I felt that Han Jemyung's fighting skills seemed to be downplayed in certain key moments, particularly during the Ant Hill arc. I would have loved to see more of his prowess in action, rather than relying solely on his strong will.

Final Verdict
Despite its minor shortcomings, "The Perfect" is a worthwhile read. The engaging plot, well-developed characters, and comedic elements make for a fun and memorable experience. If you're looking for a novel that blends action, humor, and a touch of the unconventional, I'd recommend giving "The Perfect" a try.
