My Thoughts on The Esper Who Loves Me
"The Esper Who Loves Me" promised a fresh take on the guideverse trope, and after diving in, I found it delivered on some fronts but stumbled on others. This isn't your typical esper-guide story, leaning more into a militaristic setup, which I appreciated. It kept things interesting from the get-go.
First Impressions
I was immediately drawn to the dynamic between the MC and ML. The idea of a dominant but soft ML paired with an MC who isn’t a damsel in distress is always appealing. I was hoping for a power couple, and the initial setup seemed to promise just that.
What Works Well
The author does a solid job of portraying the MC as a capable leader, someone who can crack jokes but also remain collected under pressure. This balance is a big plus. The concept of the MC being a dual-awakener with intriguing psychic powers also added a unique layer to the story. I enjoyed how the MC wasn't just some pushover; he was a force to be reckoned with. Also, I found the possessiveness between the leads to be just right – not too overbearing, not too subtle.
Areas of Concern
I did find myself wanting more depth in the relationship between the MC and ML. I would have liked to see a more detailed exploration of how their feelings developed. I was hoping for a slow burn, but I felt like it jumped ahead a bit too quickly. Also, the plot felt a little too convenient at times. The way certain abilities manifested felt more like plot devices than organic developments.

Final Verdict
Overall, "The Esper Who Loves Me" is an enjoyable read if you're looking for a military-esque guideverse story with a strong MC and a dominant ML. While the plot can be a bit convenient, and the relationship development could use more depth, the unique premise and dynamic between the leads make it worth checking out. I'd give it a solid 3.5 out of 5 stars.
