My Thoughts on The Devil Who Violates
"The Devil Who Violates" is definitely a web novel that tries to be more than just its smut tag, and to varying degrees of success. I went in expecting one thing, and got something...different.
First Impressions
The title and summary definitely scream "smut," and the initial chapters lean into that. We're introduced to a saintess burdened by a curse that requires her to, well, get intimate with a demon. The premise is titillating, but I quickly realized that the story has a larger world-building and plot at play than I initially anticipated.
What Works Well
I appreciate the attempt at a more complex narrative. The author clearly put thought into crafting the world and exploring the characters' motivations. The male lead, despite being a "demon," is portrayed as more of a victim of circumstance, imprisoned and tortured for his lineage. The female lead, while initially seeming one-dimensional, does show some growth as the story progresses. Several people liked the adventure aspect of the story, as the couple begin a journey to revive the Holy Lady. The romance, while not always the focus, can be genuinely sweet and wholesome at times.
Areas of Concern
The execution falters in a few areas. The smut itself isn't always a highlight; some find it mechanical and lacking passion. The way the story tackles sensitive topics such as r*pe is questionable. The saintess's approach to these situations may come across as tone-deaf and insensitive, which can be off-putting. Also, while I appreciate the plot, it sometimes overshadows the romance and smut elements, potentially disappointing readers looking for a more explicit experience.

Final Verdict
"The Devil Who Violates" is a mixed bag. If you're solely here for the smut, you might be disappointed. However, if you're looking for a fantasy story with a plot, some romance, and occasional explicit scenes, this might be worth a try. Just be aware of the potentially problematic handling of sensitive themes and be prepared for a story that's more than just its title suggests. Ultimately, I think it's a 3/5 star read, with the potential to be higher if some of the issues were addressed.
