My Thoughts on Surely A Happy Ending
"Surely A Happy Ending" promised a rollercoaster of emotions, and while it delivered on that promise, my overall impression is somewhat mixed. It's the kind of story that's easy to get sucked into, especially if you're a fan of the "fake marriage turned real" trope, but it also has its share of familiar pitfalls.
First Impressions
Initially, I was intrigued by the premise: a woman, Lee Yeonu, trapped in a loveless marriage with Kang Seonjae, a cold chaebol, gets a second chance at happiness when she's sent back in time. The idea of her trying to change their fate, especially after witnessing her husband's tragic death, definitely grabbed my attention. The story started off with a familiar set-up of misunderstandings between the two leads.
What Works Well
The character development, particularly for Lee Yeonu, was a definite highlight for me. At first, I found her somewhat passive, but as the story progressed, I appreciated her growth and determination to protect Kang Seonjae. The romantic elements were also well-executed, with plenty of fluffy and cute moments that made me smile. I enjoyed the "couple growth" and how they helped each other overcome their insecurities. The supernatural elements added an interesting twist, especially the subplot involving Goldie, which was surprisingly touching. The ending was also satisfying, with the villains getting their comeuppance and the loose ends neatly tied up.
Areas of Concern
While the story was generally enjoyable, it did fall into some familiar traps. The ever-present misunderstanding trope, while common in this genre, felt a bit overused at times, and it took a while for the leads to finally communicate effectively. Also, some of the character development felt a bit uneven.

Final Verdict
"Surely A Happy Ending" is a decent read, especially if you're looking for a lighthearted romance with a touch of drama and supernatural elements. While it doesn't break any new ground, it's a satisfying story with well-developed characters and a heartwarming ending. It's not mind-blowing, but it's definitely worth a read if you enjoy the genre.
