My Thoughts on Shattered Memories
"Shattered Memories" promised a blend of fantasy, romance, and a touch of angst, and it mostly delivered. I went in expecting a fairytale-esque story, and that's largely what I got, though perhaps with a few more bumps along the road than I anticipated. The narrative definitely has a unique charm, drawing inspiration from familiar stories while forging its own path.
First Impressions
The initial chapters hooked me with the sweet and innocent interactions between the mermaid MC and the prince ML. Their budding curiosity and affection felt genuine, and I was eager to see their relationship develop. The European-inspired setting added to the fairytale ambiance, and I found myself easily immersed in their world. The premise of a human-nonhuman relationship, set against a backdrop of magic, was definitely appealing.
What Works Well
The characters are undoubtedly a strong point. The MC is a genuine cinnamon roll, and it's easy to root for him as he navigates the challenges thrown his way. The ML, at least in the beginning, is equally endearing, displaying patience and kindness towards the MC. I appreciated the initial sweetness of their relationship and the promise of a devoted love. The story moves at a good pace and the world building is well done.
Areas of Concern
While the beginning was captivating, I did find myself losing some steam around the halfway mark. The plot became somewhat predictable, and the introduction of the amnesia trope, while adding angst, also felt a bit cliché. The use of magic felt inconsistent at times, more like a plot device than an integral part of the world. While I appreciate a bit of melodrama, the latter half leaned a bit too heavily into it for my taste.

Final Verdict
Overall, "Shattered Memories" is a decent read, especially if you're a fan of fairytale-inspired romances with a touch of angst. While the plot may become predictable at times, the likeable characters and initial sweetness of the relationship make it worth checking out. Just be prepared for some potential heartbreak and a few familiar tropes along the way. I'd give it a solid 3.5 out of 5 stars.
