Description
Egru was a famous pushover. So much so that he was tricked by his only friend into incurring a massive debt. “Shit, I don’t know what I’m supposed to do.” “Tell me, Egru. Who signed the contract?” “You did it. With your ugly hands.” Levian, who had recommended the investment, laughed as he consoled Egru, who was crying as if the sky had fallen. “Still, who else would look after you like I do, right?” Six years later, still unable to repay his debt, Egru goes to visit his younger brother, who has been appointed as the Captain of the Holy Knights, to borrow 300,000 gold coins. The response from his only younger brother, D’Élysée, is cold. “I’ll give you the money, brother. It’s just pocket change, no big deal.” “When did you abandon me, and now you’re living so pathetically? It breaks my heart to see you like this.” In the end, unable to repay his debt, Egru leaves behind only a letter and departs from his friend and brother… *** [Belovud yonger bruther D’Élysée, deer frend Levian. I’m sory for cauzin so moch truble al this tiem. I’l defintly c*m back somhow.] (*Misspellings are intentional) “I guess throwing him away once wasn’t enough…” D’Élysée muttered as he looked around the old house. It was a chilling baritone, like scraping faded metal. “This time, he’s disappeared without a trace.”

My Thoughts on Preventing the Apocalypse through Solo Parenting
This web novel, "Preventing the Apocalypse through Solo Parenting," is quite the rollercoaster. I went in expecting a fantasy adventure with some romance, and while it delivers on those fronts, it also punches you right in the gut with its heavy themes and morally gray characters. Buckle up, because this one's a ride.
First Impressions
From the initial chapters, I was immediately drawn into the world. The author paints a vivid picture of a society rife with discrimination, particularly against demi-humans like our MC. The early chapters set a somber tone, hinting at the hardships the protagonist has endured. The complex family relationships and looming threat of the apocalypse create an atmosphere thick with tension.
What Works Well
The world-building is definitely a strong point. The author has clearly put a lot of thought into the societal structures, the different races, and the overall lore. I found myself genuinely invested in understanding the intricacies of this world and the MC's place within it. The plot, while tragic, is undeniably original and compelling. I was constantly wondering what would happen next, even when I wasn't sure I wanted to know! The writing style itself is also quite good, and the translation is smooth and easy to follow, which is always a huge plus.
Areas of Concern
My biggest issue lies with the male leads. Their actions, especially in the early chapters, are… questionable, to say the least. I struggled to understand their motivations and often found myself actively disliking them. It's hard to root for a romance when you're constantly yelling at the characters on the page. The level of suffering the MC endures can also be a bit overwhelming at times. It definitely treads into mature territory, and readers should be aware of the potential triggers before diving in.

Final Verdict
"Preventing the Apocalypse through Solo Parenting" is a complex and emotionally challenging read. While the world-building and plot are captivating, the problematic relationships and heavy themes may not be for everyone. If you're looking for a lighthearted fantasy romance, this isn't it. However, if you're willing to delve into a dark and gritty story with morally ambiguous characters, this might be worth checking out – just be prepared to shed some tears. I'm giving it a cautious 3 out of 5 stars. I'm intrigued enough to see where the story goes, but I'm also hoping for some serious character development (and maybe a little less suffering) along the way.
