Description
A special elite intelligence organization rooted in Hong Kong, Abyss (ABC – A Black Chaser). In Abyss, where the sole goal is to perfectly execute missions, team leader Woo Jiwoon and team member Shim Joohan maintain a secretive relationship. “Damn, you’re so rough, seriously.” “Do I need to be gentle? It’s not like we’re doing this out of love.” Though it was merely a one-sided relationship with feelings on only one side, Shim Joohan thought that perhaps someday Woo Jiwoon might open his heart. However. “Code name Sei, as of this moment, you are a suspect in the mu*der of Team A leader Ling.” Shim Joohan had become a suspect in the mu*der of Woo Jiwoon, the man he secretly loved. It was already unfair to lose Woo Jiwoon, but to be accused of killing him? Shim Joohan felt he could no longer endure in a Hong Kong and Abyss without him. In the end, he turns the gun on himself. “After all the effort to keep you alive, you want to die again?” “…Woo Jiwoon.” He’s alive. And somehow, against the scorching summer, they’ve returned to May. Whether this is a cruel nightmare or reality, Shim Joohan doesn’t know, but this time, he vows never to let Woo Jiwoon die. “Even if it means dying in his place, I’ll protect him. If I did it once, what’s so hard about doing it twice?”

My Thoughts on Passing
"Passing" sounded intriguing from the get-go, and after diving in, I can definitely see why it has such a strong following. This isn't your fluffy, run-of-the-mill romance; it's a high-octane blend of action, suspense, and intensely emotional character development, all wrapped up in a mature and engaging package.
First Impressions
From the opening chapters, I was immediately drawn into the world the author created. The imagery is vivid, the atmosphere is palpable, and the dynamic between the main characters is undeniably magnetic. The story wastes no time throwing you into the thick of things, and I found myself completely absorbed in the covert operations and the dangerous world of secret organizations.
What Works Well
The character development is a major highlight. The leads are complex, flawed, and utterly human. I appreciated how the story delves into their internal conflicts and explores the reasons behind their actions. The evolution of their relationship, from initial animosity to something much deeper, is compelling and believable. The author does a great job of balancing the thrilling action sequences with moments of genuine emotional connection. The pacing keeps you on the edge of your seat, and the plot twists kept me guessing until the very end. The world-building is also impressive, with the descriptions of spycraft and covert operations feeling authentic and immersive.
Areas of Concern
While the first half of the story completely hooked me, I did notice a slight dip in the latter half. The plot became somewhat predictable, and some of the tropes felt a bit cliché. However, this didn't detract too much from my overall enjoyment.

Final Verdict
Despite a few minor drawbacks, "Passing" is a truly captivating read. The strong character development, thrilling plot, and immersive world-building make it a standout in the genre. If you're looking for a mature, action-packed romance with complex characters and plenty of twists and turns, I highly recommend giving this one a try. I'd happily read it again.
