The initial chapters drew me in with their everyday depiction of office life. The protagonist felt relatable, just an ordinary guy navigating his mundane existence. The introduction of the mysterious neighbor, bearing rice cakes no less, sparked my curiosity and set the stage for the unfolding relationship. It has an element of comfort and realism at the beginning before the story takes a darker turn.
What Works Well
The core strength of this novel lies in its exploration of a relationship with a very flawed, yandere male lead. The author does a fantastic job of portraying the slow burn, the subtle manipulations, and the way the protagonist gradually falls for someone who might not have his best interests at heart. I found myself questioning the ML's actions, constantly on edge, which is precisely what a good psychological thriller should do. I particularly enjoyed the latter part of the novel. The unsettling atmosphere really shines through. The lost memories of the MC also added a layer of intrigue that propelled me forward.
