First Impressions
The initial setup is undeniably intriguing. We're dropped into a European-esque setting with a female protagonist caught in a web of familial expectations and a secret love affair. The amnesia element adds another layer of mystery, making you question everything you thought you knew. I was immediately invested in unraveling the tangled relationships and discovering the truth behind the rumors surrounding the FL.
What Works Well
The novel shines in its commitment to drama. The author doesn't shy away from creating high-stakes situations and exploring the emotional turmoil of the characters. I found myself genuinely empathizing with the FL, even when her actions were questionable. The pacing, focusing on the present with flashbacks to fill in the gaps of lost memories, kept me engaged and eager to learn more. There's a certain addictive quality to the story; you just need to know how it all plays out.
Areas of Concern
While I appreciate the dedication to angst, the ML's behavior often felt frustratingly over-the-top. His inability to recognize the FL, despite their supposed deep connection, strained my suspension of disbelief. The miscommunication issues, while common in romance, sometimes felt artificially prolonged, hindering the plot's progress. I also found the parents' actions to be a bit cartoonish.
