"Mother of School Grass" was a delightful surprise! I went in expecting a fairly lighthearted school-life romp, and while it certainly delivered on that front, it also offered a surprising amount of emotional depth and character development. The premise – a mother going back to high school alongside her son – sounded potentially awkward, but the author managed to make it feel endearing and genuine.

Initially, I was a little hesitant. The idea of a mother and son being mistaken for a couple seemed a bit cliché. However, the story quickly won me over with its heartwarming portrayal of familial love and the characters' individual struggles. It's a blend of comedy, romance, and a touch of the supernatural, which makes for an engaging and unique read.
What Works Well
The strength of this novel lies in its characters. Chai Meichen's journey of self-discovery and her unwavering love for her son, Zhou Rui, is truly touching. Their "bro-like" relationship is both humorous and heartwarming. I also found myself completely charmed by Huo Ranxi, the male lead. His dedication and understanding made him incredibly likable, and his unwavering support for both Chai Meichen and Zhou Rui was admirable. Even Yi Qiange, the biological father, despite his initial flaws and regrets, underwent significant character development, making him a compelling and relatable character. I also enjoyed the friendships that MC developed along the way.
