Description
“When you fed a hungry beast, you should’ve been prepared for this.” I didn’t want to be a bad mother and the source of trauma for the male lead in the original. So I just decided to strengthen the relationship between me and my brother, as well as fulfill my duty of ensuring that my husband doesn’t pass out. “You’ve tamed me, so please take responsibility.” My husband, who will be the final villain in the story, began to act sweetly, using his beauty as a weapon. I’m sorry, but wasn’t our business relationship for the best?

My Thoughts on Lilian of Turin
First Impressions
"Lilian of Turin" immediately drew me in with its promise of a mature female lead navigating a second chance at life. The tags – fantasy, romance, shoujo – plus a hint of yandere male lead, set the stage for what I expected to be an engaging read. And while it delivered on some fronts, other aspects left me wanting more.
What Works Well
Lilian herself is a definite highlight. I appreciated her chill demeanor and maturity, which provided a refreshing contrast to some of the more typical shoujo protagonists. The story also has a comfortable, feel-good vibe that makes it easy to pick up and enjoy. Plus, I found myself invested in the relationships Lilian builds, even if they sometimes felt a bit rushed. The steamy kiss scenes were a nice touch, adding some spice to the otherwise gentle narrative.
Areas of Concern
However, I did find some areas where the story fell a little flat. The black-and-white morality felt simplistic. Characters seemed to either adore or despise Lilian with little nuance in between. This made the "good guys" and "bad guys" feel somewhat one-dimensional. The male lead's supposed yandere tendencies were also a bit of a letdown. While I was told about his monstrous nature, I didn't really see it in his actions, resulting in a character that felt more like a "safe" obsessive rather than a genuinely frightening one.
The speed at which characters fell for Lilian was also a bit jarring. The transition from indifference to doting was sometimes too abrupt, lacking a believable "falling in love" period. I found myself wishing for more gradual character development and more realistic motivations.
Final Verdict
Overall, "Lilian of Turin" is a decent read, especially if you're looking for a feel-good story with a mature female lead. While it has its flaws, particularly in its character development and nuanced storytelling, it's still an enjoyable experience. I'd be interested to see how the author's writing evolves in future works.
