It’s a Reverse Harem Horror Game, But the State of the Male Leads Is Strange Review & Spoilers - Novel Translator
My Thoughts on It’s a Reverse Harem Horror Game, But the State of the Male Leads Is Strange
Okay, buckle up, because this title alone is a wild ride, and the story mostly delivers on that promise. I went into this expecting some over-the-top smut with a side of horror, and that's pretty much what I got. It's a quick, easy read, perfect for when you want to switch your brain off and enjoy something a little…out there.
First Impressions
The premise is definitely intriguing: a South Korean office worker gets trapped in a VR R19+ game after trying to unlock Master Mode. It's a classic setup with a fun twist, and I was immediately curious to see how she'd navigate this bizarre situation. The initial chapters hooked me with their blend of horror elements and the MC's initial obliviousness to the… ahem… growing tension around her.
What Works Well
The pacing is a major strength. The horror aspects keep things moving at a brisk pace, and I never felt like the story dragged. The character development, particularly of the male leads, was also a highlight. I appreciated that they weren't one-dimensional and that the story delved into their backgrounds and motivations, even if only briefly. I also have to give props to the translator; the writing felt smooth and natural. The smut, while not the most groundbreaking, was frequent and fulfilled its purpose for the story.
Areas of Concern
While the fast pace kept me engaged, it also meant that some aspects felt rushed. The main character, while likable, could be a bit bland at times, and I would have liked to see more of her inner thoughts and struggles. Also, the plot, while present, sometimes felt secondary to the smut, which might disappoint readers looking for a more balanced story. I did find myself wishing the MC struggled more during missions or even failed one, as it felt like the plot armor was too strong at times.

Final Verdict
Overall, It’s a Reverse Harem Horror Game, But the State of the Male Leads Is Strange is a fun, albeit flawed, read. If you're looking for a complex plot or deep character development, this might not be for you. But if you're in the mood for a quick, smutty reverse harem with a touch of horror, this could be right up your alley. Just remember to turn your brain off and enjoy the ride! I'd give it a solid 3.5 out of 5 stars.
