My Thoughts on I Want to Be Your Guide
"I Want to Be Your Guide" dives headfirst into the often turbulent world of guideverses, and while I found myself captivated by certain aspects, it's a story that left me with mixed feelings. It's a blend of angst, romance, and special abilities that kept me turning the pages, even when I wanted to throw my hands up in frustration.
First Impressions
The premise is intriguing: a world where guides and espers are classified and matched, and our protagonist finds himself with a less-than-ideal compatibility with his assigned esper. I was immediately drawn into the potential for conflict and character development. The modern-day setting with game elements also added a unique flavor to the typical guideverse trope.
What Works Well
The angst! Okay, hear me out. While it can be a lot, the story does a compelling job of portraying the emotional fallout of a relationship built on uneven footing. I appreciated how the MC, despite being somewhat of a pushover initially, eventually finds his backbone and starts demanding better treatment. His character arc, from naive to self-respecting, was a definite highlight. The pacing was good and the plot twists kept me guessing.
Areas of Concern
The biggest issue I had was with the male lead. His treatment of the MC felt unnecessarily harsh, and the constant trauma dumping from past relationships made it difficult to root for their connection. The ending also felt a little abrupt, leaving several loose ends dangling. I also found myself sympathizing with a certain side character, wishing their storyline had been handled differently.

Final Verdict
"I Want to Be Your Guide" is a rollercoaster of emotions. If you enjoy angsty romance, bully dynamics, and don't mind a flawed male lead, you might find yourself hooked. However, be prepared for a potentially frustrating read with an ending that might leave you wanting more. For me, the angst was a bit too much to fully enjoy the story, but the MC's development and the unique world-building kept me invested until the end. It's a 3.5 out of 5 for me.
