My Thoughts on I Think I’m a Horror Game Villain
"I Think I’m a Horror Game Villain" presents an intriguing premise: a protagonist who finds herself in a horror game as the villain. While the idea is certainly appealing, my experience with the story has been a bit of a mixed bag.
First Impressions
The initial hook of a villainess who's actually aware of her role definitely grabbed my attention. I was ready for some morally grey shenanigans and a protagonist who wasn't afraid to embrace her darker side. The European-inspired setting and the mystery surrounding her past added another layer of intrigue, promising a compelling blend of fantasy and horror.
What Works Well
I appreciate the self-awareness the main character displays, at least initially. It's a refreshing change from the usual "villainess turned saint" trope. The story does a decent job of highlighting the MC's internal conflict as she grapples with her identity and the potential consequences of her actions. The male lead's character, with his carefully constructed "nice guy" facade, also holds some interest. The haunted house storyline, while not entirely original, provides a suitably creepy backdrop for the unfolding drama.
Areas of Concern
My biggest issue lies with the protagonist's naiveté. While a certain level of vulnerability can be understandable in a horror setting, I found her reliance on the male lead, despite the obvious red flags, frustrating. Her willingness to divulge crucial information about her past and the nature of the game felt unearned and detrimental to her character. I also struggled with the plot holes, particularly the fact that she helped create this very game but has barely any knowledge of it, it's a hard pill to swallow. It feels like a convenient plot device to explain her ignorance, but it ultimately undermines the story's credibility. Furthermore, the story seems to be falling into a predictable romance, which detracts from the potential horror and mystery elements.
Final Verdict
"I Think I’m a Horror Game Villain" has a promising concept, but it stumbles in its execution. While the initial premise and some character dynamics are intriguing, the protagonist's naiveté, plot inconsistencies, and a potentially predictable romance arc ultimately detract from the overall experience. It's a story with potential, but it needs to iron out its flaws to truly shine.
