My Thoughts on I Mistook the Hidden Identity of the Sub Male Lead
I've been diving into "I Mistook the Hidden Identity of the Sub Male Lead," and it's been quite the rollercoaster! The premise alone grabbed my attention: a protagonist who suddenly finds herself in the body of a minor villainess in a fantasy romance novel. It's a recipe for either hilarious chaos or frustrating plot derailment, and so far, it seems to be leaning towards the former, which I find extremely enjoyable.
First Impressions
My first impression was definitely positive. Mayerie, our MC, is trying her best to navigate this bizarre new reality. I appreciate that she's not immediately perfect or all-knowing. She stumbles, she winces at the original character's past behavior, and she genuinely tries to make the best of a strange situation. This relatability made it easy for me to root for her from the start.
What Works Well
The world-building is subtly done, which I appreciate. We're not bombarded with information dumps; instead, we learn about the world organically through Mayerie's experiences. The plot takes some unexpected turns, and I'm particularly intrigued by the Crown Prince. He seems to be manipulating events from the shadows, and his interactions with Mayerie are full of tension and mystery. The author does a great job of making me question his motives and wonder what he's really up to. The story also does a great job of making the readers think the MC will get the story back on track, but she makes mistakes along the way and changes the plot in ways she doesn't expect.
Areas of Concern
⚠️ Spoiler Warning: ⚠️
While I'm enjoying the story overall, I can understand some of the criticism regarding the Duke's ending. It sounds like his character arc is tragic, and some readers might find it unsatisfying, especially if they empathize with him. It sounds like the original story gets derailed and his chance at happiness is ruined by the FL.
Final Verdict
Despite some potential reservations about the ending, I'm still thoroughly enjoying "I Mistook the Hidden Identity of the Sub Male Lead." The engaging plot, relatable protagonist, and intriguing mysteries make it a worthwhile read. If you're looking for a fantasy romance with a twist and don't mind a potentially bittersweet ending for some characters, I'd recommend giving this novel a try.
